The Best Day Trips from Agadir and Taghazout with a Private Driver
Beyond the beach: Paradise Valley’s palm-filled gorge, the walled town of Taroudant, the silver of Tiznit, the birds of Souss-Massa and the surf of Imsouane — all within a day.
Agadir and the surf villages of Taghazout and Tamraght are perfect for sun, sea and waves. But after a few days on the beach, many travellers want to discover the region behind the coast: palm-filled gorges, walled towns, argan forests and wild Atlantic shores. With a private driver, you can explore at your own pace and be back for sunset by the ocean. Here are our favourite day trips.
1. Paradise Valley (about 1 hour)
Hidden in the hills north-east of Aourir, Paradise Valley is a narrow gorge lined with palm trees, where a river forms natural rock pools of turquoise water. It's a lovely place for a short walk, a swim in the pools (in the warm months) and lunch at a simple café under the palms. The road climbs through the valley of the Tamraght river, with honey producers and argan trees along the way.
Tips: go on a weekday morning to avoid crowds; water levels depend on rainfall, and after dry periods the pools can be small. Wear sandals with grip.
2. Taroudant (about 1h15)
Often called "little Marrakech", Taroudant is enclosed by some of the best-preserved earthen ramparts in Morocco. Its souks are authentic and relaxed, famous for spices, leather and Berber jewellery, and its two main squares are lively in the evening. A calèche ride around the ramparts is a lovely way to see the walls.
Combine with: an argan cooperative on the way, and the orange groves of the Souss plain.
3. Tiznit and the coast to the south (about 1h30)
Tiznit, south of Agadir, is famous for its silver jewellery souk and its pink ramparts. Nearby, the coast offers wild beaches such as Aglou and the cliffs around Mirleft, popular with surfers and paragliders.
4. Souss-Massa National Park (about 1 hour)
Between Agadir and Tiznit, the Souss-Massa National Park protects coastal dunes, estuaries and one of the last wild colonies of the northern bald ibis, a rare bird. Birdwatchers love the Massa river mouth, especially in the early morning. Walks along the estuary are peaceful and beautiful.
5. Imsouane (about 1h45 from Agadir)
North of Taghazout, the fishing village of Imsouane sits on a bay famous for one of the longest right-hand waves in Africa — a dream for longboarders and beginners. Even if you don't surf, watching the waves roll endlessly into the bay, then eating fresh fish at the port, is a perfect day. The coastal road from Taghazout via Tamri is spectacular.
6. Essaouira (about 3 hours)
The windy port city of Essaouira, with its UNESCO-listed Medina and blue fishing boats, makes a long but rewarding day trip — or better, a one-night stop. The coastal road passes argan forests and viewpoints over the ocean. Read our Essaouira day trip itinerary and our article on the Agadir airport to Essaouira transfer.
7. Marrakech (about 3 hours)
Yes, Marrakech is possible as a long day trip from Agadir — around 6 hours of driving in total, leaving 4 to 5 hours in the city. It's more relaxing to spend at least one night, but if your holiday is based on the coast, a private driver makes a Marrakech day realistic. See our intercity transfers.
Closer to Agadir: half-day ideas
- Agadir Oufella kasbah — panoramic views over the bay, especially at sunset.
- The Souk El Had — one of the biggest markets in Morocco, with thousands of stalls.
- The argan coast — a drive along the cliffs between Aourir and Taghazout, with coffee stops overlooking the surf.
Why a private driver on the coast?
Public transport is limited outside Agadir, and grand taxis are crowded and not designed for sightseeing. A private driver gives you:
- flexible timing — catch the morning surf, then explore in the afternoon,
- space for boards, beach gear and children,
- local knowledge of the best viewpoints, honey stalls and fish restaurants,
- safe return after sunset.
For transfers between Agadir airport and the surf villages, see our Agadir airport to Taghazout page and the surf-friendly transfer guide.
Best season
The coast is pleasant all year thanks to the Atlantic breeze. Spring and autumn are ideal for inland trips (Taroudant, Paradise Valley); summer is perfect for the coast but hot inland; winter brings big surf and mild, sunny days.
A sample week on the coast
- Days 1–2: surf and beach in Taghazout.
- Day 3: Paradise Valley in the morning, Agadir Oufella at sunset.
- Day 4: Taroudant and an argan cooperative.
- Day 5: Imsouane by the coastal road.
- Days 6–7: Essaouira, then continue to Marrakech for your flight home.
The region around Agadir is far richer than its beaches. Tell us where you're staying, and we'll suggest the best trips for your days.
