Agadir Airport to Taghazout & Tamraght: Surf-Friendly Private Transfers
How to get from Agadir Al Massira airport to Taghazout, Tamraght, Aourir or Imsouane with your boards — travel times, tips and what to expect on arrival.

North of Agadir, the coastline bends into a series of right-hand point breaks that have made Taghazout one of the most famous surf destinations in the world. Anchor Point, Killer Point, Hash Point, Banana Point, Devil's Rock — the names alone get surfers excited. Add year-round sunshine, colourful surf houses and a relaxed village atmosphere, and it's easy to see why thousands of travellers fly into Agadir every week with a board bag under their arm. Here's how to get from the airport to the waves without any hassle.
Where everything is
Agadir Al Massira Airport (AGA) lies inland, about 25 km south-east of Agadir city. The surf villages are north of the city along the N1 coast road:
- Agadir city and Marina — about 25 minutes from the airport
- Aourir and Banana Village — about 40 minutes
- Tamraght — about 45 minutes
- Taghazout village — about 45–50 minutes
- Taghazout Bay resorts and golf — about 50 minutes
- Tamri — about 1h10
- Imsouane — about 1h45
The route skirts Agadir via the ring road, then follows the coast with the Atlantic on your left. If you land in daylight, you'll already be checking the swell from the window.
The surfboard problem
Agadir's small orange petit taxis can't legally leave city limits, and the larger grand taxis are usually old Mercedes saloons or Dacia estates with limited space. A single board bag might fit on the roof with some rope; two or three boards, plus suitcases, plus four friends, is another story. Negotiating this at the airport after a long flight is no fun.
A private transfer solves it: you tell us how many boards and how long they are, and we send a vehicle with enough room. Board bags travel inside the van, protected from sun, dust and bad straps. There's no surcharge for boards — just let us know in advance.
Surf camps and group arrivals
Taghazout's surf camps and yoga retreats often welcome groups arriving on different flights on the same day. We regularly work with surf houses to:
- collect guests from several flights and group nearby landing times,
- use a minibus for larger groups with all their equipment,
- keep the camp manager updated on WhatsApp as each group lands.
If you run a surf camp, send us your arrival list at the start of the season and we'll take care of the logistics. Our Agadir airport to Taghazout transfer page has the current prices.
What to expect on arrival
After passport control and baggage reclaim (board bags usually arrive at the oversized luggage belt), your driver waits right in front of the exit doors with a sign showing your name. He'll help you load everything and, if you need it, stop on the way at a supermarket in Agadir or Aourir to buy water, snacks or a local SIM card.
Arriving at night? No problem — we track your flight and wait however late you land.
Choosing your base
Each village has a different feel:
- Taghazout is the original surf village: lively, social, full of cafés and surf shops, with the most famous breaks within walking distance.
- Tamraght is quieter and more residential, popular with longer-stay surfers and families, close to Devil's Rock and Banana Beach.
- Aourir (Banana Village) offers good value and a local atmosphere, with easy access to beginner-friendly beaches.
- Imsouane, further north, is famous for one of the longest right-hand waves in Africa — perfect for longboarders.
When to go
Winter (October to March) brings the big Atlantic swells and the best point-break conditions for experienced surfers. Spring and autumn offer milder waves suited to intermediates. Summer is ideal for beginners, with small waves, warm weather and a festive atmosphere. Morning offshore winds are usually the best time to surf.
Combine surf and Marrakech
A week of surf followed by a few days in Marrakech is a classic Moroccan combination. From Taghazout, Marrakech is about 3h15 by motorway. You can also take the scenic coastal road north to Essaouira, spend a night there, and continue to Marrakech. We cover all these routes with our intercity transfers, and if your return flight leaves from Marrakech, our Marrakech airport transfer completes the trip.
Practical tips for surfers
- Pack a padded board bag — luggage handling can be rough.
- Bring reef booties for some of the rocky point breaks.
- Wax for warm water in summer, cooler water in winter (a 3/2 wetsuit is usually enough).
- Respect local surfers and the line-up etiquette, especially at Anchor Point.
- Keep some dirhams for the first day; ATMs are available in Taghazout and Tamraght.
The ocean is waiting. Book your transfer, mention the number of boards, and we'll handle the rest — from the arrivals hall to the doorstep of your surf house.
