Escape to the mountains, one hour from Marrakech
When the Medina feels too hot or too busy, the Ourika Valley is the perfect breath of fresh air. Just 65 km south of Marrakech, the road follows the Ourika river into the High Atlas, between terraced fields, walnut trees and red-earth Berber villages clinging to the slopes.
Suggested itinerary
- 09:00 — Pick-up at your hotel or riad.
- Tnine Ourika & argan cooperative — see how women crack argan nuts and press the famous oil.
- Berber house visit — a family opens its traditional home; enjoy mint tea and bread baked in a clay oven.
- Setti Fatma — the end of the road. Walk (with a local guide if you wish) up to the first of the seven waterfalls, a 30 to 60 minute climb over rocks.
- Lunch by the river — tagine on a terrace with your feet almost in the water.
- 17:00 — Back in Marrakech.
Because the trip is private, the schedule is yours. Leave later, skip the cooperative, add a stop at the Anima Garden by André Heller, or stay longer in Setti Fatma.
Good to know
Wear trainers with good grip for the waterfall walk. In spring the river is high and the valley is at its greenest; in summer it's 8–10 °C cooler than Marrakech. Local guides at Setti Fatma charge a small fee — your driver can introduce you to a reliable one.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Ourika waterfall walk difficult?
The first waterfall is an easy-to-moderate 30–60 minute scramble over rocks. Good shoes are enough; the upper falls are more demanding.
Is lunch included?
Lunch is paid on the spot so you can choose freely; expect 80–150 MAD per person for a tagine by the river.
Can we combine Ourika with Agafay?
Yes — a morning in Ourika and sunset in the Agafay desert is a popular combination. Ask us for a quote.
