Morocco's most spectacular waterfalls
The Cascades d'Ouzoud plunge 110 metres in several tiers into a red-rock gorge, surrounded by olive trees and rainbows on sunny afternoons. They're 155 km north-east of Marrakech — about 2h30 each way — which is why a private driver makes such a difference: you can leave early, arrive before the group tours and come back whenever you're ready.
Your day
- 08:00 — Pick-up in Marrakech. The road crosses the Haouz plain and climbs into the Middle Atlas foothills towards Azilal.
- 10:30 — Arrive at Ouzoud. Walk down the shaded path past small cafés to the viewpoints.
- Barbary macaques live in the trees along the trail — watch them, but please don't feed them.
- Boat ride to the foot of the falls on a colourful raft (a few dirhams).
- Lunch on a terrace facing the cascades — fresh tagine or grilled fish.
- Optional: cross to the other side of the gorge and hike to the river below.
- 18:00 — Back in Marrakech.
Tips
Wear comfortable shoes: the paths are steep in places. Spring (March–May) offers the most water; in late summer the flow is lower but still beautiful. Local guides are available at the entrance but not mandatory.
