Agadir Airport Arrival Guide: Transfers to Agadir Bay, Taghazout and Beyond

Agadir Al Massira airport (AGA) is the gateway to Morocco’s sunniest coast: the long beach of Agadir bay, the surf villages of Taghazout and Tamraght, the Souss valley and, a few hours away, Essaouira and Marrakech. The airport is modern and easy to use, but it lies well outside the city, so planning your transfer makes a real difference. Here is what to expect.

Where the airport is

The airport is located inland, roughly 25 km south-east of Agadir’s seafront. The drive is easy on good roads, but it is too far to walk, and there is no direct train. Your options are taxis, a few buses and pre-booked private transfers.

Typical drive times from the airport

Times vary with traffic and the time of day, but as a guide:

DestinationDistanceApprox. drive time
Agadir bay (hotels, marina, seafront)about 25 km25–35 min
Tamraght and Aourirabout 40 km40–50 min
Taghazout and Taghazout Bayabout 45 km45–55 min

How arrival works

After passport control and baggage reclaim, you enter a single arrivals hall. With a private transfer, your driver waits there with a sign bearing your name, having tracked your flight. He helps with luggage and walks you to the vehicle in the car park a few minutes away. If you need a SIM card or dirhams first, take your time — our guide to SIM cards, cash and Wi-Fi on arrival explains the options.

Taxi or private transfer?

Grand taxis wait outside the terminal and can take you to Agadir or nearby towns. Fares are usually higher at night, and you will need to agree the price before leaving. They carry a limited amount of luggage.

A private transfer is the simplest choice when:

  • you arrive at night or very early in the morning;
  • you travel as a family or group — the price is per vehicle;
  • you carry surfboards, golf bags or bike boxes;
  • you continue directly to Taghazout, Essaouira or Marrakech.

Our vans carry up to 8 passengers with their luggage, and our VIP minibus up to 17. Surfboards are welcome: tell us how many when booking.

Staying in Agadir bay

Agadir is a modern city rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake, with a long sandy beach, a lively promenade, a marina and the restored Kasbah on the hill above the port. Most hotels line the bay or sit just behind it, all easily reachable by car door-to-door — no medina alleys to navigate. It is a relaxing base for families, with easy day trips from Agadir and Taghazout, including the natural pools of Paradise Valley.

When to come: Agadir’s climate

Agadir is famous for its mild climate and around 300 days of sunshine a year. Winters are soft, with daytime temperatures often around 20 °C, which makes the bay a favourite escape from northern Europe between November and March. Summers are warm but tempered by the Atlantic breeze, while inland, in the Souss valley and towards Marrakech, the heat can be much stronger. Morning sea mist is common in late spring and summer and usually burns off before noon. For surfers, autumn and winter bring the most consistent waves to Taghazout; families often prefer spring and early summer, when the sea is calmer.

Flying home from Agadir

On departure day, the same simple rule applies: we pick you up at your hotel, villa or surf camp at the agreed time, load the luggage and boards, and drop you at the terminal entrance. From Taghazout, count about an hour of driving; from Essaouira or Marrakech, around three hours, so these transfers are usually planned early in the morning for midday flights. If you are combining Marrakech and the coast, you can also land in one city and fly home from the other — a private transfer links them in a single comfortable drive.

Practical tips

  • Send your flight number when booking: we follow delays and adjust automatically.
  • Give the name and address of your hotel, villa or surf camp.
  • Mention bulky luggage and the number of child seats you need.
  • Keep a little cash in dirhams for tips and small purchases.
  • On departure, plan to leave your hotel in Agadir bay about 2 h 30 to 3 h before an international flight.

In short

Agadir airport is relaxed and well organised, but its distance from the coast makes a pre-booked transfer the easiest way to start your holiday. Tell us where you are going, how many you are and what you are carrying — we will send the right vehicle and a driver waiting with your name.
