Agadir Airport to Marrakech by Private Car: Route, Time and Tips
Flying into Agadir Al Massira and heading to Marrakech? Discover the route over the Atlas foothills, how long it takes, where to stop and why a private car makes sense.

Agadir Al Massira Airport (AGA) is a smart alternative for reaching Marrakech. Many European airlines offer frequent, affordable flights to Agadir, sometimes when flights to Marrakech are full or expensive. The question is then how to cover the 250 km between the Atlantic coast and the Red City. Here is everything you need to know about making the trip by private car.
Where is Agadir airport?
Al Massira airport lies about 25 km south-east of Agadir city, on the road towards Taroudant. That location is actually convenient for Marrakech: you don't need to go through Agadir's city centre. In about ten minutes you reach the junction with the A7 motorway, which runs all the way north-east to Marrakech.
The route and travel time
The drive takes around 3 hours in normal conditions:
- AGA → Amskroud — the motorway climbs gently away from the Souss plain, with argan forests on both sides.
- Amskroud → Imintanoute — the most scenic section, crossing the western foothills of the High Atlas through cuttings in red and ochre rock, with a few tunnels and wide viewpoints.
- Imintanoute → Chichaoua → Marrakech — the landscape opens onto the vast Haouz plain, and on clear days you can see the snowy peaks of the Atlas on your right as you approach the city.
The motorway is modern, well maintained and generally quiet. Tolls are moderate and are always included in our fixed prices.
Stops worth making
One of the great advantages of a private car is that you can turn a transfer into a small excursion:
- Argan cooperative: several women's cooperatives near the road show how argan oil is produced, from cracking the nuts to pressing. It's a fascinating 20-minute stop, and you can buy cosmetic or culinary oil at fair prices.
- Goats in the trees: between June and October, it's not unusual to see goats climbing argan trees to eat the fruit — a classic photo.
- Service areas: the motorway has clean rest areas with cafés where you can have a mint tea or a sandwich.
- Panoramic viewpoints: on the Atlas section, your driver can stop for photos when it's safe to do so.
Private car vs bus vs rental car
Bus: coaches between Agadir and Marrakech are comfortable and cheap, but they leave from Agadir's bus station, about 30 minutes from the airport. Schedules rarely match flight arrivals, and you'll need a taxi at both ends.
Rental car: possible, but after a flight you may not want to drive 250 km on unfamiliar roads, deal with parking in Marrakech (which is very limited near the Medina) or return the car at the end. In Marrakech itself, you won't need a car.
Private transfer: your driver meets you at arrivals, the price is fixed per vehicle, and you're dropped at your door. For two people or more, the cost per person becomes very reasonable. See our Agadir airport to Marrakech transfer.
Arriving late?
Some flights land in Agadir late in the evening. A private transfer is the easiest way to get to Marrakech the same night without waiting until the next day. If you'd rather rest first, we can pick you up at your Agadir hotel the next morning instead.
Starting your holiday on the coast
Many travellers combine both destinations: a few days of beach or surf around Agadir and Taghazout, then Marrakech and the Atlas. In that case, the order is up to you:
- Coast first: Agadir airport to Taghazout transfer, then a Taghazout–Marrakech transfer at the end of your beach stay.
- Marrakech first: AGA to Marrakech on arrival, then Marrakech to Agadir airport for your return flight.
You can also travel along the coast via Essaouira, a beautiful 5-hour road trip with lunch by the ocean. Ask us about our intercity transfers.
Practical tips
- Book in advance and share your flight number so we can track the plane.
- Bring cash for small purchases at the cooperative or cafés; cards aren't always accepted.
- Children: tell us their ages, and we'll install suitable child seats free of charge.
- Motion sickness: the motorway is smooth, but if you're sensitive, sit at the front of the van and ask for a short break on the mountain section.
What it costs
Our price for AGA to Marrakech is fixed per vehicle, whatever the number of passengers up to the vehicle's capacity, and includes fuel, tolls, parking and up to 90 minutes of waiting at the airport. For larger groups, a minibus is often the most economical option per person.
The road between Agadir and Marrakech is one of the most beautiful in Morocco. With the right driver, it becomes the first highlight of your trip rather than a chore. Book your transfer and enjoy the view.
