Multi-City Morocco Itinerary by Private Van: Marrakech, Essaouira, Agadir

One of the best ways to discover Morocco is to combine the energy of Marrakech with the calm of the Atlantic coast. In ten days you can explore the Red City, breathe the air of the High Atlas, wander the blue-and-white Medina of Essaouira, surf in Taghazout and relax on the beaches of Agadir — all with your own private van and driver. Here's a tried-and-tested itinerary, stage by stage.

Why travel by private van?

Between these destinations, public transport means bus stations, timetables and taxis at every stop. With a private van, you leave from your hotel when you're ready, stop wherever you like along the way and arrive at your next hotel's door. For families and groups, the cost per person is very reasonable. See our intercity transfers and van hire with driver.

Flights: open jaw is your friend

The smartest option is an "open jaw" ticket: fly into Marrakech and out of Agadir (or the reverse). It avoids backtracking and saves a full day of driving. If that's not possible, you can return to Marrakech at the end via the motorway (about 3 hours from Agadir).

Days 1–4: Marrakech and surroundings

Day 1 — Arrival. Private Marrakech airport transfer to your riad. Evening at Jemaa el-Fna.

Day 2 — Marrakech. Majorelle Garden, Bahia Palace, the souks and a hammam. Consider a licensed guide for the Medina.

Day 3 — High Atlas. Day trip to Imlil or the Ourika Valley for fresh air, Berber villages and walks.

Day 4 — Agafay. Relaxed morning, then sunset and dinner in the Agafay desert.

Days 5–7: Essaouira

Day 5 — Marrakech → Essaouira (about 2h45). Leave after breakfast, stop at an argan cooperative and look for goats in the trees. Arrive for lunch by the harbour. Afternoon on the ramparts.

Day 6 — Essaouira. Explore the Medina, the Mellah, the galleries and the fishing port; take a beach walk or a horse ride; try kitesurfing if the wind is up.

Day 7 — Around Essaouira. Relax, or take a short trip south to Sidi Kaouki, a laid-back surf village with a long wild beach.

Days 8–9: The coast road to Taghazout and Agadir

Day 8 — Essaouira → Taghazout (about 3 hours). This is one of the most beautiful drives in Morocco: the coastal road passes argan forests, the Cap Sim lighthouse, the fishing village of Tamri with its banana plantations, and the long beaches of Imsouane (an easy detour). Lunch overlooking the ocean. Arrive in Taghazout for sunset.

Day 9 — Taghazout and Agadir. Take a surf lesson, do a yoga class, or explore Paradise Valley, a palm-filled gorge with natural pools in the hills behind Aourir. In the evening, visit the Agadir Oufella kasbah for a panoramic view over the bay.

Day 10: Departure from Agadir

Transfer to Agadir Al Massira Airport (about 45 minutes from Taghazout). Or, if your flight leaves from Marrakech, a 3-hour motorway transfer back.

Variations

  • With the desert: add 3 days at the start for a private tour to Merzouga, or 2 days to Aït Ben Haddou and the Dades valley.
  • Slower pace: add a night in an Atlas lodge or in Agafay.
  • Shorter trip (7 days): Marrakech (3 nights), Essaouira (2 nights), Agadir or Taghazout (2 nights).
  • Beach first: reverse the itinerary and finish in Marrakech for shopping.

Drive times summary

  • Marrakech → Essaouira: about 2h45
  • Essaouira → Taghazout (coast road): about 3h
  • Taghazout → Agadir airport: about 45 min
  • Agadir → Marrakech (motorway): about 3h

Distances are comfortable: no day requires more than three hours of driving, leaving plenty of time to enjoy each destination.

Where to stay

  • Marrakech: a riad in the Medina for atmosphere, or a hotel in Hivernage or the Palmeraie for space and a big pool.
  • Essaouira: a riad with a roof terrace in the Medina, or a beachfront hotel.
  • Taghazout/Tamraght: surf houses, boutique guesthouses or the resorts of Taghazout Bay.
  • Agadir: beachfront hotels along the corniche.

Practical tips

  • Pack layers: Marrakech can be hot while Essaouira is windy and cool.
  • Keep luggage reasonable: see our van packing guide.
  • Book early in high season, especially Easter, summer and Christmas.
  • Use the same company for all transfers to simplify logistics and keep consistent service.
