Lost Luggage or Delayed Flight in Morocco? What to Do and How Your Driver Helps

Every frequent traveller has a story: the carousel stops, the last suitcases are collected, and yours simply isn't there. Or the departure board shows a delay of four hours, then six. These situations are stressful anywhere, and even more so in a new country. Here's what to do if it happens at Marrakech, Casablanca or Agadir airport — and how a private transfer turns a bad moment into a manageable one.

If your luggage doesn't arrive

1. Don't leave the baggage hall. Once you pass customs, it's much harder to report the problem. Go to the lost and found / baggage services desk in the reclaim area. Desks are operated by the airport's handling agents on behalf of the airlines.

2. File a report. You'll receive a reference number (often called a Property Irregularity Report, or PIR). Keep it carefully — you'll need it for tracking and any claim. Describe your bag precisely: colour, brand, size, distinctive marks, ribbons or tags.

3. Give a delivery address and phone number. Provide the exact address of your hotel or riad, and a phone number with WhatsApp. For a Medina riad, add the riad's own phone number, as couriers may struggle to find it.

4. Message your driver. If you've booked a private airport transfer, let your driver know you're filing a report. He'll wait — this is exactly why waiting time is included. A taxi driver, by contrast, may have left long ago.

5. Keep receipts. If you need to buy toiletries or clothes, keep every receipt for your airline claim and travel insurance.

What to buy while you wait

Most delayed bags arrive within a day or two, usually on the next flight from the same origin. In the meantime, your driver can stop on the way to your hotel at a supermarket or pharmacy for the essentials: toothbrush, toiletries, phone charger, a change of clothes. In Marrakech, large supermarkets and shopping centres are close to the main hotel areas; in the Medina, small shops sell everything you need.

Tip: always pack medication, a charger, a change of clothes and a swimsuit in your hand luggage. It makes the first 24 hours without your suitcase painless.

Tracking and delivery

Use your reference number to track the bag online or by phone with the airline. When the bag is found, it's usually delivered to your accommodation by courier. If you're staying in a remote place — a desert camp or a mountain lodge — it may be easier to arrange a pick-up. We can collect the bag at the airport and bring it to you, or deliver it on your next transfer.

If your flight is delayed

When you book a transfer with us, we track your flight number. If your flight is delayed, your driver adjusts automatically — you don't need to call or pay extra for reasonable delays. For long delays, you'll still find your driver waiting, or another driver taking over the late pick-up. Read more about how flight tracking works in our meet & greet guide.

If your flight is cancelled and rescheduled for the next day, simply send us a WhatsApp message with the new flight details and we'll move your booking.

If you miss a connection in Casablanca

Many travellers connect in Casablanca for Marrakech or Agadir. If your first flight is late and you miss the domestic connection, the airline will usually rebook you — sometimes many hours later. In that case, consider whether a road transfer is faster: Casablanca to Marrakech takes about 2h45 by motorway. Our Casablanca airport to Marrakech transfer is often the quickest way to reach your hotel the same night. If your bag is checked through to Marrakech, inform the baggage desk before leaving CMN.

Your rights

Depending on your route and airline, passenger rights may apply to delays, cancellations and lost luggage — for example under the Montreal Convention for international baggage, and European rules for flights departing from or operated by carriers based in the EU. Keep boarding passes, receipts and reference numbers, and contact the airline after your trip. Travel insurance can also cover essential purchases and delays.

Departure delays

If your departure flight is delayed, there's no point arriving at the airport hours early. Check the airline's app, and message your driver: we'll move your pick-up time. If the delay is announced after you've reached the airport, most terminals have cafés and seating; for very long delays, airlines may provide meals or a hotel.

Checklist

  • Report missing luggage before leaving the baggage hall.
  • Keep the reference number and all receipts.
  • Give your hotel's exact address and a WhatsApp number.
  • Inform your driver — he'll wait.
  • Pack essentials in your hand luggage on every trip.

Travel problems happen, but they're far easier to handle with someone on your side. Book a transfer with flight tracking and travel with peace of mind.
