Casablanca Airport to Marrakech: Private Transfer vs Train (2026)
Landing at Casablanca Mohammed V but staying in Marrakech? We compare the train, the bus and a private transfer on time, cost, comfort and convenience.

Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport (CMN) is Morocco's main international hub. Royal Air Maroc's long-haul flights from North America, Africa and the Middle East land there, as well as many European connections. If your final destination is Marrakech, you still have about 230 km to cover. Should you take the train or book a private transfer? Here is an honest comparison to help you decide.
The train route, step by step
There is no direct train from the airport to Marrakech. The usual journey looks like this:
- Airport shuttle train from the station beneath the terminal to Casa Ain Sebaa or Casa Voyageurs (around 30–40 minutes, trains roughly every hour).
- Connection at Casablanca for the train to Marrakech. Depending on timetables, you may wait from 10 minutes to more than an hour.
- Train to Marrakech — around 2h40 to 3h.
- Taxi from Marrakech station to your hotel or riad, often with another round of price negotiation.
On paper the trains are reliable and inexpensive. In practice, the total door-to-door time is usually 4h30 to 5h30, with two changes, stairs and platforms to manage with luggage, and very limited options after the evening.
The private transfer route
With a private transfer, your driver waits in the CMN arrivals hall with a name sign. You walk to the car park, load your bags and go. The A7 motorway is fast and well maintained, and the drive takes around 2h45 to Marrakech, with a comfort stop if you wish. You are dropped at your hotel or as close as possible to your riad.

Comparing the real cost
The train looks cheaper — and for a solo traveller it is. But the comparison changes quickly as soon as you are two or more:
- Solo traveller with a backpack: the train is the most economical choice.
- Couple with two suitcases: train tickets plus the taxi at Marrakech station plus the time spent: the private transfer usually costs a little more but saves two to three hours.
- Family of four or five: with four or five train tickets plus a large taxi, the difference becomes small, and the transfer is far easier with children.
- Group of six or more: a private van or minibus is often cheaper per person than first-class train tickets.
Remember that a private transfer price is per vehicle, including luggage, fuel and tolls.
Time is the hidden cost
After a long-haul flight, every extra hour feels long. The train option typically adds two hours to your journey, often more if you land at an unlucky time. For a short trip, that's a large part of your first day in Morocco. With a direct transfer, you can be enjoying a mint tea on your riad's terrace while you would otherwise still be waiting at a platform.
Night arrivals and early departures
This is where the private transfer clearly wins. Late-night arrivals at CMN are common, and trains to Marrakech stop running in the evening. If you land at 23:00, your options are a very expensive taxi, a night in a Casablanca hotel, or a pre-booked private transfer. The same applies to early morning departures: getting from Marrakech to CMN for a 07:00 flight is practically impossible by train. We operate 24/7. Comfort and luggage
Trains in Morocco are comfortable, but stations involve stairs, crowds and luggage racks that fill up fast. If you travel with large suitcases, a pushchair, golf bags or elderly relatives, door-to-door service makes a real difference. Our vehicles — comfort vans, Mercedes VIP vans and minibuses — are chosen precisely for this.
What about the bus?
Long-distance coaches between Casablanca and Marrakech are inexpensive and comfortable, but they leave from city bus stations, not the airport. You would still need a taxi from CMN to the bus station, and another in Marrakech. For airport arrivals, the bus is rarely practical.
Make the most of the drive
A private transfer also lets you personalise the journey:
- Add a stop at the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, one of the largest mosques in the world.
- Have lunch in a roadside restaurant famous for grilled meat on the motorway.
- Simply sleep — the motorway is smooth, and seats recline.
Our verdict
- Choose the train if you are travelling alone or as a budget-conscious couple, with light luggage, landing in the middle of the day.
- Choose a private transfer if you are a family or group, arrive at night or very early, carry lots of luggage, or simply want to save time and energy on day one.
